The 4th SYMPOSIUM OF SWINE PRODUCTION, held on 23 and 24 September 2016 at Platamon Royal Palace Resort and Spa in the occasion of celebrating VETHELLAS 30th anniversary, was successfully carried out. The participation of the invitees to the symposium was massive.

Greek and foreign speakers developed exhaustively, issues of high scientific interest regarding the health and genetic improvement of pigs, as well as issues concerning nutrition and swine management. The following speakers developed the issues, concerning swine health: Dr. Panin Alexander, (Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Member of the French Academy of Veterinary Medicine,  Member of the working group on the safety of livestock products of the World Organization for Animal Health - OIE), Dr. Billinis Charalambos, (Dean, School of Health Sciences- Professor, Department of Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary School, University of Thessaly), Dr. Skoufos John, (Professor, D.V.M., M.Sc., Ph.D. Laboratory of Animal Health and Swine Production, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Technology, Food Technology and Nutrition Division of Animal Production, TEI of Epirus), while the issues relating to genetic improvement, nutrition and swine management were developed by Mr. Millard John, (CEO of J J Genetics, England, a nucleus of pure breed),  Dr. Mamuris Zisis, (Professor of Genetics, Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, Vice Rector of Research – University of Thessaly),  Dr. Mavromichalis Ioannis, (PhD, International Consulting Nutritionist – Chief Editor of “Pig International”, USA), Dr. Kantas Dimitris, (Professor, Department of Animal Production, School of Agricultural Technology, TEI of Thessaly), and Dr. Kachrimanidis Angelos, (Veterinarian, President, CEO of  Vethellas SA).

During the discussion that followed, participants made various comments and expressed their point of view on the topics presented by the speakers.  The outcome was a fruitful exchange of opinions and information.

The 4th SYMPOSIUM OF SWINE PRODUCTION, with its flawless organization, managed to bring closer the scientific training to the practical application of pig farming, and contributed to the upgrade of the swine industry, so that breeders gain the maximum benefits for themselves and their livestock units.
